Your nose plays a vital role in making your face have the right proportions. For many people, they have a problem with either the size or the structure of their noses. So, they go see a cosmetic surgeon for a rhinoplasty, or in layman’s term, a nose job. The surgeon is there to work on the contours of the nose to make it fit your face better. The whole process can be somewhat uncomfortable and your activities will certainly be limited for a while. But if you plan well and make sure that you make yourself more comfortable during the recovery period, the whole experience will be less stressful and you will be more than satisfied with the results.

First of all, you have to realize that you aren’t going to change your whole appearance with a rhinoplasty. Some of the people may even see that the nasal bridge may look uneven during the healing process. Don’t fret and panic because you won’t see its true form until the swelling subsides. There will also be areas in your face that will be bruised, tender, numb, and somewhat uncomfortable. This is a natural occurrence. If you’re surgeon is talented, you will come out of the entire experience unscathed. Just exercise patience while your body heals. If you still have concerns, call your doctor so you will get answers.

As a matter of fact, it could take as long as two years for the final appearance to emerge. Of course, that will also depend on the extent of the change. For many people, the simple adjustments should be apparent in as short as three months. As soon as you get home from the hospital, make sure that you elevate your head when you lie down or sleep. Moreover, use dry, cold compress to aid with the swelling. For the first couple of weeks post-surgery, don’t put anything up your nostrils. You will only be allowed to use a humidifier and saline spray so you can keep your nasal passages moist while it is still very tender and sensitive.

There will also be blood after. It won’t be in excessive amounts, but you need to keep around a clean piece of cloth to wipe the stain. However, if the amount of blood increases, you need to go see your doctor immediately. This can be caused by a variety of reasons. You may hit it during your sleep or the nose wasn’t realigned correctly. If it’s the latter, you could even see another professional and seek his opinion. Otherwise, you can go back to your previous activities in three weeks’ time. And within six weeks, you can again perform strenuous work. Thus, it is your responsibility to follow your doctor’s orders carefully.

For women, you can cover the swelling with makeup. Plus, use a good concealer for your skin and under the eye area to lighten the bruises. For the smokers, try to stop the habit, at least for a month and a half, so dirty smoke won’t pass through your nostrils and infect the wound. Go for your checkups post-op at all times and listen to each advice you get.

You know, of course, that you can make your face more attractive without surgery. There are any number of methods that are proposed, and probably the best part of all of them is that you can avoid surgery! This is one that we particularly like.
